Update from the PTA President
December 5, 2008, 5:48 pm

Dear Co-Parents,

Herewith are updates from the Batch Council meeting held yesterday, December 3, 08, in Pisay.

First may I thank the teachers and the parents who represented their sections in our monthly meeting.

Present were:

Batch Adviser – Mr. Martin Perez
Batch Guidance Councilor – Mr. Ed Briones

Class Advisers Class Rep / officer

ADELFA      - Ms. Monica Xavier   –   Ms. Bob Adre
CAMIA        - Ms. Ofelia Orate       –    Dr. Coy Dejito
CHAMPACA- Mr. Efren Paz           –   Mr. Noel Azucena
DAHLIA       – Ms. Elena Dacanay  -   Dr. Nancy Garcia-Tan
ILANG         – Ms. Hazel Manuel    -   Ms. Tess Pamintuan
JASMIN       – Mr. Justin Guce       –   Ms. Ching Chanyungco
ROSAL        - Ms. Celeste Aguila   –  Ms. Rea Inoferio
SAMPA                                           –  Ms. Tess Narvas

A. UPDATES ON ITEMS DISCUSSED IN PREVIOUS MEETING:

1. UPDATE ON SAF 2011 (Student Assistance Fund)

– Through coordination with the Batch adviser, Guidance councilor, Class adviser and Parent rep from Jasmin, we have been able to give support to the orphaned child from this section. He is now staying in the dorm and we make sure that his meals are fully covered by funds coming from the SAF. Previously his meals (which cost about 2,000 per month), was directly deducted from his stipend, so he does not have much left for other expenses. Now with the basic needs covered, he has a little to spare. We also coordinate with the teachers to know if there are other expenses related to projects that we need to support.
– We have also identified certain students through the help of the Class advisers and the Guidance Councilor, who likewise need financial support. We hope to be able to continue on supporting them until our batch graduates from Pisay, and who knows, perhaps even beyond that , if we can help shape brighter futures for them.
– All these will come from the SAF Fund. So for the many kind hearted parents who would like to share their blessings specially this Christmas, please do get in touch with Mr. Perez, your  batch rep or send me an e-mail. “A little goes a long way for these kids…”
– All donations are properly recorded and given receipts.  (For the anonymous contributor who left his contribution with Mr. Guce, we will be forwarding your receipt to Mr. Guce as well.)
– Our Batch treasurer Ms. Ching Chanyungco will be posting the contributions and expenses of SAF 2011, as well as our Batch Account by end of this year. You can approach Ching or me anytime if you want to know the status of the SAF Fund.

2. UPDATE ON REMEDIAL CLASS
Ms. Orate has been holding the Remedial Classes for Algebra weekly for students with failing marks (except when there is a Faculty meeting)
– There were many requests for remedial classes for Geometry as well. Ms. Dacanay has suggested coordination with the Math Club so Mr. Perez will be speaking to the Math Club Coordinator about this, and to identify Peer tutors to help those with low (but not failing) marks.
3. UPDATE ON LOST ITEM FORM
– It appears that some students still hesitate to report lost items as they may be singled out as “careless” students. We will circulate another form that will be filled up “per class” instead of “per individual” and see if we can get better reporting.
– Please note that we cannot act on this matter unless we can gather written reports so please encourage your children to report things lost.

4. FEEDBACK ON NEWSLETTER
- We have received very good feedback on the Batch 2011 newsletter, from parents as well as teachers. There is much to improve however, since this initial issue was rushed to printing, in time for card giving. Again may I ask those who are gifted in writing and design to join us in this project for the benefit of the whole batch. This will carry on to the upcoming years of our kids in Pisay.

B. FEEDBACK ON DENGUE CASES
- I spoke with our School Physician – Dr. Batoon, morning of Dec. 3 and it was good to know that there were no other cases of Dengue reported for last month aside from my son (I- Ruby) and the son of Cez Tan (II Adelfa), unless there were those who failed to inform her or the school about their child’s sickness.
– Spot spraying was done last November 22 on the Gym and the Humanities building.  The ASTB Hall was supposed to be sprayed on the same day but since the Recollection was going on, this was deferred. The ASTB will be sprayed together with the Humanities building again, this weekend.
– She continues to monitor the larval counts on traps placed around the school campus, which was supposedly at its lowest last November.
– Please be reminded that there is no restriction at the moment regarding wearing jogging pants during P.E. Students in the dormitory are also encouraged to wear pajamas or long pants for protection.
– Let us continue to pray that no other student, staff, or family member will get this deadly virus.

C. BATCH ACTIVITIES

1. “ISANG KLASE, IBANG KLASE”
- This activity is pushing through this coming January to February 2009 (scheduled on Saturdays, with 2 sections/day) . Together with the batch guidance councilor Mr. Briones, our batch adviser Mr. Perez, has designed very meaningful as well as exciting activities for the kids on these days. Final dates and details will be announced by Mr. Perez soon.

2. “PASKONCERT ‘08: Hanggang sa Uulitin” / Batch Christmas Party

Date: December 19, 2008 (fri)
Time: 5:00 to 8:00 pm
Venue: Pisay Gym
Objective: To raise funds for the Batch Field Trip (Mt. Pinatubo)

- “PASKONCERT ‘08:  will showcase the talents of our kids and will be an opportune time to get together and have some fun!
– The main objective of this Paskoncert is to  raise funds for the Batch Field Trip. The kids have planned and chosen Mt. Pinatubo for their field trip. The field trip fee for Mt. Pinatubo is about 1,500 – 1,800/ person. Multiply that by 240 students, they will need a lot to get this activity to push through. We hope to raise at least part of this amount, to make sure that no one from the batch gets left behind.

– Tickets to the Paskoncert will be priced very low to make sure that every parent will be able to attend. But for those who can share more, we encourage you to buy raffle coupons for prizes to be given out during the concert. (Remember our goal is to raise funds for the kids activity so even if we don’t win any of the prizes, we would have contributed to a good cause!)

– You can also contribute by donating RAFFLE PRIZES whether major or minor ones. Suggestions include gadgets the kids enjoy, set of books (Twilight, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter), thumb drives, music players, cameras, cellphones, etc. Please drop me a line if you can donate prizes.

BATCH CHRISTMAS PARTY
– Right after the Paskoncert, we will have our christmas party for batch 2011 students, teachers and parents. In order for us to save on money, we will have simple dishes by potluck with each section assigned (drawn by lot) to a particular kind of food.  The food assignments are as follows (may we request each one from the class to bring enough for about 10-15 people if possible):

PIZZA  -  CAMIA & DAHLIA

PORK BARBECUE – ILANG & ROSAL

DRINKS (JUICE, WATER, SODA) /  UTENSILS, GARBAGE BAGS – ADELFA & JASMIN

PANSIT – SAMPAGUITA

PASTRY (DOUGHNUTS, CAKE, DESSERTS) – CHAMPACA

Mr. Perez will be giving out the letter for this activity together with the Paskoncert tickets and raffle coupons.

May we request the Batch Reps and the Class officers to follow up with text brigade or phone calls to your section parents to ensure a lively and successful PASKONCERT & Batch Christmas Party!
Regards to all!
